The short version: Your documents never leave your device. All editing, signing, and exporting happens locally on your iPhone or iPad, and we don't require an account. To improve the app we use anonymous usage analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase), Firebase to keep an anonymous device record and to store support messages, and RevenueCat to manage the Weekly, Monthly, Yearly, and Lifetime Premium plans. We never show ads and never sell your data. The only personal information we may receive is an email address, and only if you choose to give one when contacting support.
PDF Editor is developed and operated by TechCreativeLab. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
We designed PDF Editor so that your files stay on your device: the PDFs you open, the edits you make, the images you insert, and the signatures you save are all processed and stored locally. The only data that leaves your device is an anonymous device record, anonymous usage statistics, support messages you choose to send, and purchase information, each described below.
When you choose a PDF, the app makes a private working copy of it in its own storage area on your device. Every edit you make, such as text, images, notes, highlights, whiteout, links, signatures, and shapes, is stored alongside that copy so your session can be restored if the app is closed. When you tap Apply changes, a new PDF is generated on your device and handed to the iOS share sheet or saved to Files. The original file is never modified.
To help you fill in forms on scanned documents (Smart Fill), the app may run text recognition (OCR) on a page. This uses Apple's on-device Vision framework; the page image is processed locally and is never sent to any server.
Your documents are never uploaded. PDF Editor has no document-processing backend. We do not store, analyze, or access the content of your PDFs, images, or signatures, and the app contains no screen-recording or session-replay technology.
To do its job, the app keeps the following data locally in its private app container. None of it leaves your device unless you export or share a file yourself.
You can remove individual documents and signatures from within the app. Deleting the app from your device removes all of the above. This data is included in your normal iCloud or iTunes device backups if you have backups enabled, which is controlled by your iOS settings, not by us.
Two small items are stored in the iOS Keychain instead of the app container, so that they survive if you delete and reinstall the app: your anonymous device identifier with its creation date (section 5) and the counter of free exports you have used (section 9). These items are marked device-only, so iOS never syncs them to your other devices. They are removed when the device is erased.
When you add an image, the app uses Apple's photo picker, which lets you select a single photo without granting the app access to your whole photo library. When you open or save a PDF, the app uses the standard iOS document picker, so it can only read the specific files you choose. The app does not scan, index, or upload your photos or files.
PDF Editor does not require an account, does not use any sign-in service, and never asks for your name. Instead, the first time it runs, the app generates a random, anonymous device identifier and stores it in the iOS Keychain (see section 3). This identifier is not derived from your Apple ID, your phone number, your advertising identifier, or any other personal information, and it cannot be used to identify you by itself. The same identifier is used with each of the services below so that we can, for example, restore your Premium purchase and recognise the same installation when you contact support:
Each time the app starts, it updates a device record in Cloud Firestore (a Google service) that contains: the anonymous identifier, the date the identifier was created, the date the app was last opened, the app version and build number, your device model (for example "iPhone17,3"), your iOS version, your language and region setting, how many times the app has been installed on the device, and how many times the app has asked you to rate it. We use this record to understand how many devices are active, to know which app versions are in use, and to help troubleshoot support requests. It contains no name, email address, contact details, precise location, or document content.
We collect anonymous, aggregated usage data to understand how the app is used, to find bugs, and to improve it. This data is collected through Google Analytics for Firebase (a Google service) and is tied to your anonymous identifier rather than to your name. It includes:
Analytics events never include the contents of your documents, file names, images, or signatures. The app does not record your screen or replay your sessions. This data cannot be used to identify you personally, and we do not link it to any personal information.
Google Analytics for Firebase is configured without advertising-identifier (IDFA) support, so the app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites and does not show the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
If you contact us through the app's Contact Us form, your message is stored in our Firebase database (Cloud Firestore, a Google service) together with your anonymous identifier, the app version and build, your device model, your iOS version, and your language setting, so we can troubleshoot. Providing your email address is optional: add it only if you want a reply. If you choose the "Email us instead" option, or write to us directly, your email app sends the message to support@techcreativelab.com and we receive your email address in the normal way.
We use this information for one purpose only: to answer your request. Your email and messages are not used for marketing and are never shared with third parties. We keep support conversations only as long as needed to resolve your request and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you follow up. You can ask us to delete your support correspondence at any time using the contact details below.
We want to be explicit about what we do not do:
PDF Editor is free to download. The free tier includes one export in total (with a small watermark), documents of up to 15 pages, Smart Fill for up to 3 fields per document, and one saved signature. To enforce the single free export, the app keeps a small usage counter in the iOS Keychain that persists across reinstalls (section 3); this counter never leaves your device.
Optional Premium plans remove these limits. Premium is available as auto-renewing Weekly, Monthly, and Yearly subscriptions and as a one-time Lifetime purchase. All purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store, and purchase entitlements are validated through RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives your anonymous identifier and the purchase information Apple provides (such as the product purchased, the purchase and renewal dates, and the App Store transaction identifiers) so it can tell the app whether Premium is active and restore purchases on a new device. Whether Premium is active is also recorded as a property on your anonymous analytics profile.
We do not collect or store your payment information, and we never see your credit card or Apple ID details. Apple processes all transactions in accordance with its own privacy policy.
Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your iPhone Settings under your Apple ID → Subscriptions. The Lifetime plan is a single payment and never renews. See our Terms of Use for the full purchase terms.
The app may occasionally invite you to rate it. This prompt is shown by Apple's built-in review system, which does not tell us whether or how you rated the app; we only count how many times the prompt was shown, in your device record and in an overall counter.
Your documents stay on your device, where they are protected by the security features of iOS, including device encryption and the app sandbox, which prevents other apps from reading PDF Editor's files. The device record, support messages, analytics, and purchase data described above are transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Our Firebase database is protected by security rules that strictly validate what the app may write; nobody can read device records or support messages through the app, and they are only reviewed by us in the Firebase console. We follow industry best practices for data security. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Please note that the whiteout tool is a visual cover-up. On export, pages containing whiteout are flattened so the covered text cannot be selected or copied, but PDF Editor is not a certified redaction tool. For legally sensitive redaction, verify the exported file before sharing it.
PDF Editor is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:
Apart from an email address you may provide when contacting support, the data we hold is tied only to your anonymous identifier. Because we cannot tell which identifier belongs to you from your name alone, we may ask you for details such as your device model, iOS version, and the approximate date you first installed the app in order to locate and delete the right records. Contact us using the details below and we will handle your request promptly.
PDF Editor uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
Some of these providers store data outside your country, including in the United States. By using the app you acknowledge that your anonymous data may be transferred to and processed in those locations.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
